The Best Golf Trousers For Men 2011
From a golf shopper’s perspective what makes a really good pair of mens golf trousers? Well, for most golfers it will be a combination of style, performance and perhaps most importantly price. As golfers we all want to look the part on the golf course. We also want a pair of golf trousers that offer more than a normal pair of chinos in terms of function and performance. So, which golf trousers offer you the most bang for your buck?
Nike Golf Trousers – I’d like to start of by talking about Nike Golf Trousers as they are one of the first brands I think of when I think about value for money. Nike make two really stylish models of golf pants: the dri-fit and tech pant models. Both have a very youthful look and come in really attractive and modern colours.
Next I’d like to talk about Adidas Golf Trousers. Like Nike, Adidas offer great style and performance at a good price. I grew up wearing Adidas training shoes and football boots so the brand kind of has a special place in my heart already. Adidas have a growing collection of golf apparel which now includes polo shirts, wind shirts, waterproofs and golf trousers. If you follow the European and PGA Tours then you must have noticed the smartly dressed Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day. All of these guys wear Adidas. All of these guys are always turned out well on the golf course. The clima-cool range of trousers are made from a breathable synthetic sports fabric and as you’d expect are designed to keep you cool in hot weather.
Stromberg Golf Trousers – The next brand I’d like to talk about is a specialised golf trouser company called Stromberg. You may already have heard of them or seen fellow club golfers wearing these stylish golf trousers. Stromberg put all there thought and energy into just golf trousers and have a huge selection of styles to choose from. Stromberg has two main collections of trousers: the Stromberg Classic Golf Trousers; and the Stromberg Funky Golf Trousers. The classic line look like traditional chinos and offer a more genrous fit. The funky range has a very youthful and trendy look and comes in a number of styles and finishes. You can get shiny ones, pin-striped ones, white ones and many more. The funkys in particular are renowned for there splashes of colour used to finish the pockets. However, it’s the 30 years of innovation and improvement that really shows with Stromberg Trousers. Other important features are v-hems which allow the trouser leg to sit more elegantly over your golf shoes, and the cut and material used to allow for an unrestricted golf swing.
You really can’t go wrong with the Nike, Adidas and Stromberg brands already mentioned but there are other golf trouser brands worth discussing. Puma has made a welcome comeback in the last 5 years and they are right up there when it comes to progressive golf fashion. We take funky golf fashion for granted these days because there’s so much cool stuff around. Much credit must be given to J Lindeberg for this. He’s the one who dressed the tall and slim Jesper Parnevik in his cool and progressive designs. Ian Pouter now owns his own golf clothing company, IJP Design, and they make a nice selection of stylish golf slacks including Poulter’s trademark Tartan Golf Trousers.
Finally, there are other golf trouser manufacturers out there that offer good designs are really affordable prices. Dwyer and Co. make excellent golf trousers that have a very traditional look. Cutter & Buck are right down the same street and offer similar traditional design at good prices.
